These days, India is witnessing a wide-ranging controversy after authorities proceeded to register cases and arrest a number of Muslims merely for publicly expressing their love for the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) Prophet Muhammad slogans controversy India with slogans such as "We Love the Messenger" and "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of God."
According to human rights organizations, the first
cases began in the city of Kanpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, then spread to other states. No fewer than 21 complaints were registered against Muslims, with accusations
targeting more than 1,300 people, and dozens arrested, especially in Uttar
Pradesh.
This incident opens the door to deep questions about
the status of religious freedoms in
India, and the extent of the
state's commitment to protecting the fundamental rights of all its citizens without discrimination.
In Rabi' al-Awwal, a spontaneous wave of expression
emerged from Muslims in India. They did not carry weapons, nor did they raise a
political flag; they simply wrote on the roads and their accounts: "We Love the Messenger," "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of God."
These phrases were met with violence, as the police
quickly arrested hundreds, and First Information Reports
(FIRs) were registered against
more than 150 people, as if expressing love for the Prophet Muhammad (peace and
blessings be upon him) is a crime in a country that claims to respect freedom of expression!
The Love That Cannot Be Imprisoned
The authorities may be able to imprison people’s
bodies, and confiscate their papers and banners, but they cannot extract the
love of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) from their
hearts—a love that is not bound by laws or restrictions, because it is an
essential part of the Muslim's identity and inner being.

Prophet Muhammad—regardless of their
social status, and no matter how much they are immersed in worldly worries or
sins—carries within their heart an unextinguished ember: the love of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon
him). This love is not a fleeting feeling, but the innate nature (fitra) upon which a Muslim is raised.
The paradox is that those who seek to remove this love
only make it more firmly rooted. The more intense the abuse, the greater the
Muslims’ affection for their Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)
becomes. And the more stringent the laws are in suppressing the slogans, the
more frequently they are repeated in hearts and minds, even if they are not
written on walls.
Nothing Can Weaken Love
The campaigns of abuse against the Prophet Muhammad
(peace and blessings be upon him) in India will not weaken the nation; rather,
they will increase its connection to its Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be
upon him). The arrest of hundreds because of the slogan "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of God"
will not terrorize Muslims, but will make them more certain that the love of
the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is their firm identity, one that cannot be compromised.
Therefore, the love of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and
blessings be upon him) is not a political slogan or a temporary emotional
reaction, but the life and soul of the Muslim. History has proven that this
love remains ablaze even in the heart of the disobedient and the wicked. How,
then, can it be imagined that it could be extracted from the heart of a sincere
believer?
For this reason, every attempt to extinguish this
emotion is doomed to failure, for the love of Muhammad (peace and blessings be
upon him) among Muslims in India is the last thing they possess, and the last
thing they will ever relinquish; it is a flame that never dies.
