5 Ways to Learn Any Skill Faster
The journey of seeking knowledge and learning skills is
among the greatest values that Islamic law and human nature encourage; thus Prophet
(peace be upon him) said: “The search for knowledge is an obligation laid on every
Muslim.”
In an age of speed, technology, and modern
tools, learning skills quickly has become an urgent necessity for personal and
professional progress, and to keep pace with the developments in the labor
market.
Below we present the most important ways
through which one can learn any skill more quickly:
Smart Repetition
What is meant by repetition is not mere dull rote repetition, but a studied
method that anchors knowledge in the mind continuously and effectively. When a
skill is practiced at spaced intervals, on organized periods, the information
is fixed more quickly and recalled more easily; thus this kind of repetition is
one of the effective methods for mastering any skill.
Learning by Recall
Learning by recall is among the best ways to learn skills quickly: rather than
a superficial review of what you have learned, you can try to summon it
directly from memory. This method resembles what is called brainstorming: it
helps stimulate the mind and strengthens its capacity to retain information.
Learning through Projects
Practical application is one of the fastest methods to consolidate knowledge.
When a person turns what he learned into a real project or practical
experiment, he learns from his mistakes, discovers many new solutions, and his
skills become proficient quickly. Therefore, every skill learned on the pages
of books or computer screens should be transformed into a real-life experience
or project.
Intentional Breaks and Rest
The mind always needs rest to absorb the information it receives. Short breaks
between learning sessions increase focus and accelerate the retention of new
content.
Teaching Others What you Learned
When a person learns something and then strives to transmit it to others, the
ambiguous points become clear, and the information becomes more deeply fixed in
his mind than ever before. This is what the Companions of the Prophet (peace
be upon him) used to do: they would hear from him, then
teach what was not with them in the gathering. In the hadith the Prophet (peace
be upon him) said:
“The
example of the one who learns knowledge but does not convey it is like the one
who hoards treasure and does not spend it.” And he (peace
be upon him) also said: “I am conveying to you a hadith — so
let the one present tell the one absent.”
By applying these methods — smart
repetition, recall-based learning, learning through projects, intentional rest
breaks, and teaching what you learned — you will discover that mastering skills
quickly is no longer a difficult task, but a pleasant and fruitful journey; and
that knowledge and action together are the path to success and felicity in this
world and in the Hereafter.
