The “Humanitarian Photography Grant” in its second edition, titled “Water is Life,” announced its official sponsorship by Namaa Charityfrom Kuwait and KAAF Humanity from Bahrain. This step reflects the integration of Gulf efforts to support humanitarian initiatives with a global dimension.

Focus on Water Crisis

The “Water is Life” grant aims to highlight the crisis of access to clean and safe water, recognizing water as a fundamental human right. It aligns with the sixth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals by empowering documentary photographers to produce impactful visual projects that document reality, support advocacy efforts, and influence humanitarian policy-making.

Statement from the Grant Founder

Sami Al-Rumaiyan, Director and Founder of the grant, said: “We are proud of the sponsorship by Namaa Charity and KAAF Humanity. This sponsorship is not merely financial support but a partnership of values and mission. It confirms that humanitarian work today needs modern tools of influence, including photography, which conveys truth and stirs global conscience.”

Namaa Charity’s Role

Al-Rumaiyan added that Namaa Charity’s support reflects its long-standing expertise in water projects and sustainable development in crisis areas. He noted that this sponsorship extends its pioneering role in enabling initiatives that combine fieldwork with media impact.

He explained that Namaa Charity represents a mature institutional model in investing in projects with lasting impact. Its support for the “Water is Life” grant enhances the ability to produce more than 200 high-quality documentary photographs, made available to humanitarian organizations and advocacy groups for use in campaigns and reports addressing global water issues.

KAF Humanity’s Contribution

Al-Rumaiyan also praised the sponsorship of KAF Humanity, affirming that its participation embodies the spirit of Gulf integration in supporting creative humanitarian initiatives. He said: “KAF Humanity’s sponsorship adds an important regional dimension to the grant and reflects advanced awareness of the importance of employing visual art as a tool for change and advocacy, especially in issues related to the right to clean water.”

Plans for 2026

The grant will, during its 2026 cycle, support 10 humanitarian photography projects worldwide, organize international traveling exhibitions, publish a photographic book, and launch a digital platform with an open archive serving researchers, organizations, and decision-makers.

Building a Global Platform

Al-Rumaiyan concluded: “When Namaa Charity’s field expertise combines with KAF Humanity’s vision in supporting humanitarian initiatives, alongside the mission and global reach of the Humanitarian Photography Grant, we are not merely funding an artistic project. We are building a long-term international platform of influence that places the issue of water at the forefront of global awareness and gives affected communities a powerful visual voice that reaches the world.”
